Interview with Michael Sacco, president of the Seafarers International Union (SIU) of North America recorded at SIU headquarters in Camp Springs, Maryland on March 26, 2015 for the Daniel K. Inouye Oral History Project. Topics include the responsibilities of the SIU, how Senator Inouye and Mr. Sacco revitalized the U.S. Merchant Marines, the Maritime Security Program, the Jones Act, Piney Point Seafarers School, a story about Senator Inouye's flight home after the war, the effect of maritime affairs on Hawaiʻi, and the Jones Act versus cargo preference. The end of the video includes a photograph of Senator Inouye and Mr. Sacco.
