Interview with Manu Kahaialii and Solomon Kawaihoa 6/27/89

Interview with Manu Kahaialii at Lahaina Intermediate recorded on June 26, 1989. Kahaialii talks about his belief that Hawaiians have a chance to grow the culture of their people and about his choice to move to Lahaina to begin living his culture with his family. Kahaialii discusses his life and his decision to raise his children in Lahaina and also tells stories about Luther Makekau. Interview with Solomon Kawaihoa at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku, Maui recorded on June 27, 1989. In this video Solomon Kawaihoa plays slack key guitar and sings the song "Sanoe." Kawaihoa discusses being known on Maui as "Uncle Sol" and working at the Bailey House for many years sharing his knowledge of Hawaiian slack key guitar with various students, and teaching three types of slack key including "Taro Patch," "Mauna Loa," and "Wahine Kī Hōʻalu.
