Footage of ʻOlu Konanui and Fred Punahoa in Kalapana, 1964

Transfer of film shot by Martin Charlot in 1964. Charlot also released a film called "Kalapana, 1964." Footage includes a Hawaiian lūʻau, men preparing and cooking a pig in an imu (underground oven), men roping a cow, kanikapila (Hawaiian backyard jam where Hawaiian men and women play instruments such as ʻukulele, guitar and pakini; a bass made out of a broom stick handle and a bucket or wash tub) inside and outside of houses in Kalapana, and men using a backhoe. ʻOlu Konanui and Fred Punahoa (variant spelling Punahou) appear in the film.
