This collection contains motion picture film reels recorded by the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Known previously as the Honolulu Laboratory, the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center has been an independent science center of the National Marine Fisheries Service since 2003 with research dating back as far as 1948. The footage documents marine science exploration activities carried out by PIFSC scientists, researchers and staff in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Islands region.
