Interview with Henry Auwae 9/25/93

Interview with Henry Auwae recorded on September 25, 1993. Auwae tells a story about a time Queen Liliʻuokalani visited Kawaihae on Hawaiʻi Island when Auwae was 7 years old. Auwae recalls the sights and sounds of the event: the hoʻailona (signs/omens) of the fish coming in the harbor, the drums beating, the kahea (calling) from the canoe and the pane (answering) from shore. Auwae explains the reason of her visit was to get lomi from Auwae's kupuna. He also describes Queen Liliʻuokalani as a person and names some of her favorite things.
