Interview with Haruno Tazawa from ʻEwa Plantation, and Sahichi and Kaku Kumasaka from Oʻahu Sugar Company, conducted by Barbara Kawakami and recorded in June 1982 for Hole Hole Bushi: Songs of the Cane Field. Topics include where they were from in Japan, the year they came to Hawaiʻi and why, and what they experienced living and working on the plantation. They also explain that holehole means stripping the sugarcane manually in Hawaiian language. During the interview the kupuna wear clothes they wore in the cane field. Includes a song sung by Mr. Kumasaka.
