Interview with Shigeto "Shigesh" Wakida recorded on June 20, 1996 conducted by Teresa BIll and Chris Conybeare for the 1946: The Great Hawaiʻi Sugar Strike. Topics of the interview include how the ILWU organizers came to Wakida for his help in organizing Pioneer Mill (Maui); how he played a key role in recruitment because he was a leader in recreational sports around the camps; the working conditions on the plantation and the abuse of the workers; management resistance to organizing and tactics they used to break the union; meeting at the Queen Theater; and his position in the Lahaina union at the time of the 1946 strike.
