The winners of the 25th annual Merrie Monarch Festival [1988]
The 25th anniversary of the Merrie Monarch Festival honors the kumu whose hula hālau performed in the 1988 program. In memory of Kumu Darrell Lupenui, Men of Waimapuna performed their award-winning hula kahiko and hula ʻauana with guest dancers Healani Youn, Miss Aloha Hula 1985, and Leimomi Nuʻuhiwa, Miss Aloha Hula 1986. Also with a special performance by the King's Guard drill team of King's Village. The winners of the 25th anniversary of the Merrie Monarch Festival in 1988 are announced. Overall winner goes to Hula Halau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua under the direction of Kumu Johnny Lum Ho.
