Hula Paʻaloha, Reel IV - The Beamers
Program about the Beamer family's Island of Hawaiʻi style hula filmed by Vivienne Mader from 1930 to 1935. Includes performances by Helen Desha Beamer dancing "Hilo Hanakahi," Winona Kapuailohia Beamer dancing "He ʻOno," Elizabeth Kawohikukapulani "Baby" Beamer dancing "Heʻeia" and "E Liliʻu Ē," several versions of hula for "Kawika," and dances for "Huʻi Ē," "Haole Hula," and "My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua Hawaii." Includes song translations and summaries, explanations of dressing for hula. This footage is from Bishop Museum accession number 1982.0033.0024.
