Pau Hana Years : Aunty Alice Namakelua; 1974

Interview with Aunty Alice Namakelua recorded in 1974 for the program Pau Hana Years. In this interview Namakelua talks about recording and releasing her first album at age 82; where she was born and raised; how the slack key style of guitar came to Hawaiʻi and how she learned to play; being a mānaleo; how she got the name Alice and what her Hawaiian name means; how she hosted and played music for Queen Liliʻuokalani; composing her own songs; and teaching classes. Namakelua also plays three songs on 'ukulele and slack key including: Ka Manu and 'I'iwi A'o Hilo, which she composed, and Noho Paipai (Rocking Chair).
