Pau Hana Years : Okinawan 80th Anniversary Celebration

In this special edition of Pau Hana Years, guest hosts Teddy and Nanci Tanaka celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Okinawans arriving in Hawaiʻi. Herb Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawai'i, presents a resolution to Albert Teruya, chair of the Okinawan 80th Anniversary Commission. Nanci Tanaka interviews her mother-in-law, Kiyoko Chinen. Teddy Tanaka interviews 90-year-old Yasuko Takamine about her longevity, and Dr. Mitsugo Sakihara, associate professor of history at University of Hawai'i, about the history of Okinawans in Hawai'i. Third generation (sansei) trio San Da Gwa perform traditional Okinawan music, accompanied by dancers. Teddy and Nanci Tanaka perform several numbers.
