Pau Hana Years : Senior Citizens Recre-ocean event at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau 9/14/78

In this episode of Pau Hana Years Bob Barker attends the third annual Senior Citizens Recre-ocean event at Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau, coordinated by the County of Hawaiʻi Parks and Recreation Elderly Activities Division and the University of Hawaiʻi-Hilo Continuing Education. Recorded on September 14, 1978. Participants engage in hands-on activities with Carla Frietas on kapa, Tom DeAguiar on kāmaʻa (sandals made out of tī leaf), Bill Puou on hale pili (traditional Hawaiian house thatched with pili grass), Bernard Obara on driftwood, and Charles Grace on fishing nets. Barker interviews George Yoshida, Elderly Activities Director of the Hawaiʻi County Parks and Recreation. Henry Hua of the City of Refuge describes the hukilau preparations.
