Pau Hana Years : Limu and salt ponds on the island of Kauaʻi; 1981

Interview with Jeremy Harris, University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant Marine Advisor, recorded in 1981 and conducted by Charlotte Simmons at the Salt Pond in Hanapepe, Kaua'i for the program Pau Hana Years. Harris shows the various types of the limu found on Kauaʻi and explains their culinary uses. Jennie Mailekeni Keuma of the Kekaha Senior Center and the Kaumualiʻi Hawaiian Civic Club demonstrates the traditional practice of salt making and harvesting. Niʻihau resident John K. Keale discusses the environmental challenges of maintaining the salt beds.
