Interview with Kahu David Kawika Kaʻalakea in Makena 5/13/94 tape 1

Interview with Kahu David Kawika Kaʻalakea recorded in Makena, Maui on May 13, 1994 for the documentary "Hawaiian Voices: Bridging Past to Present." In ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language). The tape begins with Kahu Kaʻalakea showing how Hawaiians would mark their path through lava fields using white coral rocks, and tying stones with strips of bark. In the interview Kahu Kaʻalakea explains the value of pōhaku (rock) and how they are useful in Hawaiian life; and shares other stories about his younger school days. Tape ends with Kahu Kaʻalakea playing the steel guitar and Eddie Kamae tuning his ʻukulele.
