Nalani Olds presents Oli and Himeni at Midkiff Learning Center, Kamehameha Schools Kapālama 5/2/00

Recorded the year after the Hui Hānai published "The Queen's Songbook," Nalani Olds presents Oli and Himeni of Queen Liliʻuokalani at Midkiff Learning Center, Kamehameha Schools Kapālama on May 2, 2000. Olds begins the presentation by explaining and chanting part of "The Kumulipo," which Queen Liliʻuokalani translated. After the chant, Olds talks about the songbook and how it came to be published; tells stories about growing up; and tells the history and legacy of the Queen while singing songs written by and for her. Includes the following songs written by or for the Queen: "Pauahi ʻo Kalani," two mele inoa (name chant or song composed in honor of a person) for Kaʻiulani including "He Inoa No Kaʻiulani," "Sanoe," "Ka Wiliwili Wai," "Tūtū," "The Queen's Jubilee," "Puia Ka Nahele," "Kuʻu Pua Paokalani," "Makalapua," and "Aloha ʻOe." Also includes part of "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Kaulana Na Pua." Includes same presentation on the second half of the video with burned-in timecode.
