Pau Hana Years : 1980 Merrie Monarch Festival, Filipino garden at UH Mānoa, Ahuʻena Heiau

This episode of Pau Hana Years aired in 1981 and is in three segments. The first segment was recorded at the 17th Annual Merrie Monarch in 1980. It features hula kahiko performances from the Men of Waimapuna under the direction of Kumu Darrell Lupenui, and Johnny Lum Ho Dance Studio [Hālau o Ka Ua Kani Lehua] under the direction of Kumu Johnny Lum Ho. In another segment, Fortunato Teho interviews Dr. Eric Cassino, Chief Anthropologist of the National Museum of the Philippines, on proposing a Filipino garden at the East-West Center on the University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa campus. General Contractor Attilio (Nick) Carta shares the landscape designs. In the third segment, Aala Akana, Guest Activities Director of the King Kamehameha Hotel, discusses the history and restoration of the Ahuʻena Heiau.
