Interview with Nelson K. Doi conducted by Larry Meacham and Daniel W. Tuttle, Jr. on October 4, 1989 at Hilo Community College, in Hilo, Hawaiʻi as part of the Hawaiʻi Political History Documentation Project. Former state senator, judge, and lieutenant governor recalls how his interest in public affairs and public service began, being the youngest delegate at the 1950 Constitutional Convention and the youngest senator in the 1955 legislative session, ILWU opposition to his policies, statehood delegation to Washington DC, managing the legislative process and the democratic caucus, lieutenant governor campaign, Democratic party revolution, and his Honolulu mayoral campaign. Interview spans 6 videotapes.
