Interview with Herman Lemke conducted by Chris Conybeare and Daniel W. Tuttle, Jr. on 4/27/1988 in the KHET studio Honolulu, Oʻahu as part of the Hawaiʻi Political History Documentation Project. A former council chair reviews his years on the board of supervisors (later city council) and talks about elective politics and politicians. Topics include: home rule; the Honolulu charter; HGEA movement; cesspool contracting investigation in the 1950s; mass transit; single-member district politics; Jack Burns' influence on the Democratic Party; and reflections on various politicians including Neal Blaisdell, Frank Fasi, Daniel Akaka, George Ariyoshi, Johnny Wilson, and John Waiheʻe.
