Interviews with Sam Kaʻai and Florence Hasegawa 12/2005

Interviews with Sam Kaʻai and Florence Hasegawa separately recorded in December of 2005 for the documentary "Lahaina: Waves of Change." In the first interview Kaʻai gives brief explanations of the plantation days and the intercultural changes and influences such as food, ʻukulele, and slack key guitar. Kaʻai says, "People adjusted not by philosophy but by just being here." Kaʻai's interview is continued on titles 27552, 27568, 27569, and 27586. In the second interview Hasegawa talks about her parents coming to Maui from Japan in 1903 and their lifestyle living at Lāhainā Pump Camp also known as Waineʻe Village.
