Continued from title 26687, interview with Akoni Akana recorded in Lāhainā, Maui on July 20, 1999 for the documentary "Lahaina: Waves of Change." Akana continues to share his manaʻo (thoughts) of what makes Mokuʻula a sacred site and its importance to Hawaiian people. Akana shares moʻolelo (stories/histories) about Keōpūolani, mother of Kamehameha II, III and Nahienaena; and about a chant titled "E Hoʻi Ka Nani" written in the 1840s by retainers left in Lāhainā when Kauikeaouli moved his court to Honolulu.
