Hawaiian Legacy Foundation: Eddie & Myrna Kamae

Interview with Eddie and Myrna Kamae at Pineapple Hill 11/1/1999 tape 1

Interview with Eddie and Myrna Kamae recorded on the steps of Pineapple Hill in Lāhainā on November 1, 1999 for the documentary "Lahaina: Waves of Change." Kamae talks about his teacher Mary Kawena Pukui telling him, "Eddie if you have any pilikia (problems) with your wife Myrna, you're wrong" and also telling him to write for the children so they never forget because change will come. Kamae also shares about how he and slack-key guitarist Raymond Kane, his friend and roommate at the time, went to Lāhainā to play music for Kamae's mom, what led to meeting Myrna, and how he was courting Myrna while in Lāhainā doing research. Kamae also shares memories of visiting Lāhainā as a little boy; taking Myrna to meet his mother; and his marriage to Myrna. This tape also has footage, continued from 27187 recorded on October 31, 1999, of Halloween Haunted House and Pua Lindsey sitting on Front Street watching Halloween-goers pass by.
