Interview with Teresa Haunani Makuakane-Drechsel, Kamehameha School, Oʻahu 8/31/02 tape 2

Continued from title 28931, interview with Teresa Haunani Makuakane-Drechsel recorded on August 31, 2002 at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama campus for the documentary "Keepers of the Flame: The Cultural Legacy of Three Hawaiian Women." Makuakane-Drechsel continues to share stories of Aunty Edith Kanakaʻole. She talks about Kanakaʻole's ability and confidence in her Hawaiian identity and knowing she did not have to shed her Hawaiianness in order to live in a time and place where being Hawaiian was not so popular; the ability to write music and help her students understand the poetry and richness in Hawaiian language; and ways in which "we" can honor Kanakaʻole.
