Hawaiian Legacy Foundation: Eddie & Myrna Kamae
Interview with Kekuhi Kanahele-Frias 3/25/04 tape 1
Interview with Kekuhi Kanahele-Frias recorded at her home in Keaukaha on March 25, 2004 for the documentary "Keepers of the Flame: The Legacy of Three Hawaiian Women." Kanahele-Frias shares stories of her grandmother Edith Kanakaʻole. Kanahele-Frias describes her grandmother as "busy." If she was not busy with workshops and teaching she was busy with home life such as cleaning yard, gardening, and kaʻapuni (travel around the island) visiting places and family with whom she was connected. Kanakaʻole felt it was important to maintain a connection with the family, both living and those who have passed, through connection with the land. Kanahele-Frias shares teaching and learning methodologies of her grandmother, which she calls "authentic learning."
