Rice & Roses #807 : The Historic Dock Strike of 1934

Establishing a union where one never existed before has been met with violent pushback from the employing company, the police, and the government. This documentary film about the 1934 maritime and general strike in San Francisco shows what the strikers had to endure in order to obtain union recognition, better wages, and improved working conditions. A result of this was the establishment of the International Warehouse and Longshore Union (ILWU). Includes interviews with Henry Schmidt and German Bulcke.
