This episode of Rice & Roses is a viewing of "A Common Man's Courage" (1978) a documentary film about former Congressman John Toussaint Bernard (1893 - 1983). Bernard is noted for being the only vote against an arms embargo against Spain. Bernard actively organized people to unionize as well as supporting President Roosevelt's New Deal that included minimum wage, low rent public housing, aid for farmers, and anti-lynching laws.
