A Tribute to Dorothy Gillett

This program subtitled "ʻO ʻoe, e Dorothy Gillett, he kumu kau i ka hano" was aired as a Kamehameha Schools Song Contest preshow segment. Former students and colleagues of Dorothy Kahananui Gillett gather to pay tribute to her career as a music teacher, her life, and her love for music. As an instructor, she was known to be strict yet passionate about her classes with the hope that her students would get something out of the course. Gillett is most fondly remembered for the impact her arrangements of songs had on the Kamehameha Schools Song Contest through the years. Narrated by her son Mark Gillett and including interviews with Dorothy Kahananui Gillett, Robert Cazimero, Haunani Bernardino, Barbara Smith, Sam Kamaka Jr., and Carlson Kamaka Kukona III. Recorded on March 15, 1996.
