Mele Hawaii : A National Identity the Royal Hawaiian Band and Captain Henri Berger

The Royal Hawaiian Band and 250 performers pay tribute to Henri Berger, the father of Hawaiian music, who gave Hawaii a national identity. The Royal Hawaiian Band, with bandmaster Denneth Kawashima and deputy bandmaster Gabe Baltazar, Jr.; Royal Hawaiian Glee Club featuring Gabe Baltazar, Jr., George Hookano, Solomon Kalima, George Lopez, Carlyle Nelson, and Charles Pokipala; singers Yvonne Perry and Marlene Nahoopii. With dancers Maile Webster, Pope Elementary School Keiki Chorus, and Eleo Dancers from the L.D.S. Church. Songs include Kohala March (Maikaʻi i Ka Makani o Kohala), Kuʻu Pua i Paoakalani, Ahi Wela, a medley of songs composed by Mekia Kealakai Waialae Waltz and Loaʻa Ko Puni Kauoha, Sweet Lei Lehua, Tomi Tomi, Hilo March, and a medley of Aloha ʻOe and Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī. Recorded on September 16, 1974.
