George E. Cabral Sr. and George E. Cabral Jr.
This collection contains materials recorded by George E. Cabral Sr. and George E. Cabral Jr., two generations of Hawaiʻi-based news photographers and cameramen. Cabral Sr. was active in the 1950s-1970s, as a photographer for the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper and a cameraman for KHVH-TV (now KITV) Honolulu's ABC-affiliate station. His son, Cabral Jr. was a news cameraman for 40 years at KHON-TV from 1975-2014. Footage includes scenes of John F. Kennedy's visit to Hawaiʻi in 1963, Queen Elizabeth's visit in 1966, rescue and responder footage of the Hokuleʻa capsizing in 1978, the Oʻahu Prison riot in the 1950s, and KHON-TV news footage from 1980.
