27th Merrie Monarch Festival Hula Kahiko Highlights 1990

Kahiko highlights from the 27th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival. The 1990 festival featured hula that honored Kamehameha IV (Alexander Liholiho, his wife Queen Emma, and son Prince Albert Edward Kauikeaouli Kaleiopapa. This reel highlights the hālau who placed first, second, and third for kāne and wāhine hula kahiko. For the kāne: Hui Hoʻoulu Aloha under the direction of Kumu Cy Bridges placed third, Hula Hālau ʻO Kahikilaulani under the direction of Kumu Ray Fonseca placed second, and Hula Hālau ʻO Kawailiʻulā under the direction of Kumu Chinky Mahoe placed first. For the wāhine Hālau Hula ʻO Kahikilaulani under the direction of Kumu Ray Fonseca placed third, Keolalaulani Hālau ʻŌlapa O Laka under the direction of Kumu Aloha Dalire placed second, and Hālau ʻO Nā Maoli Pua under the direction of Kumu Alicia Smith. Also features hula kahiko highlights from the 1990 Miss Aloha Hula winner Natalie Noelani Ai from Hālau Hula Olana.
