First Friday : The Unauthorized News : OHA's Rights - Income from Ceded Lands (November 1987)

Panel discusses the Office of Hawaiian Affairs's right to a 20% share of the income from ceded lands, a job discrimination case, and a case concerning Hansen's disease patients. Pacific news of Fiji, New Caledonia,the Philippines and the U.S. military buildup in Hawaiʻi. Guest Boyce Brown, an attorney, tells the history of OHA and explains that most of these ceded lands belong to the Department of Transportation who refuse to give OHA their 20% share of income. Both the State and Federal Supreme Courts decided this was a political issue and sent it back to the legislation in Waiheʻe's administration.
