Interview with Ledward Kaʻapana recorded on February 7, 1991. Kaʻapana discusses growing up in Kalapana in a big family and first hearing slack key at age 5 or 6 from his mom, dad, and Uncle Fred (Punahou variant Punahoa). Kaʻapana talks about his childhood days of learning how to play slack key guitar by watching his parents, Uncle Fred, and other aunties and uncles because they were a musical family. Kaʻapana also explains how he learned to play with feeling and from the heart, which comes out in his music.
