Interview with Bob Gleason 3/31/92 tape 1

Interview with Bob Gleason, a luthier or stringed instrument maker recorded on March 31, 1992. In this video Gleason shares his manaʻo (thoughts) of how interesting it is here in Hawaiʻi to make stringed instruments for ordinary everyday people and not just for musicians. Bleason explains that music here in Hawaiʻi is a part of life and the people who come into his shop have an interactive relationship with their instruments. He also shares a little about a koa lap steel guitar from the 1930s, how the koa lap steel was popular before the electric steel guitar came out, and the resurging interest in old instruments.
