Polynesians build canoes under the banyan tree 5/25/2000

Footage recorded on May 25, 2000 in Lāhainā, Maui for the documentary "Lahaina: Waves of Change." Canoe carvers continue to work on their canoes under the banyan tree. Footage includes a group from Tahiti painting sealant on their canoe; Cook Islanders carving designs on the sides of their canoe; and people from Aotearoa (New Zealand) continuing to build their canoe.
