Interview with Tommy Taurima in Lāʻie 9/18/95

Interview with Tommy Taurima, a Maori songwriter, recorded in Lāʻie on September 18, 1995 for the documentary "Keepers of the Flame: The Cultural Legacy of Three Hawaiian Women." Taurima shares his experiences with Edith Kanakaʻole including: when she visited New Zealand for the South Pacific Polynesian Festival held at Rotorua in 1976 and her breathtaking representation of Hawaiʻi; how Taurima along with a Maori dance troupe from New Zealand visited Kaʻū in 1979 and were hosted by Edith Kanakaʻole and Hālau o Kekuhi for an "ancient exchange of traditional culture" at South Point; and what "Aunty Edith" [Kanakaʻole] means to him and the Maori people. Taurima also talks about Mary Kawena Pukui, Pat Bacon, and ʻIolani Luahine.
