A history of Hawaii's native people in three parts. In Part I "The Time of Ao" chanters recount the mystical adventure of Polynesians discovering a new land; actors portray initial landing and village life until the mid-1970s; and ends with chant "Auʻaʻia." Part II "Innocence Betrayed" examines the effect of Western contact from Captain James Cook until the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani. Part III "Hold Fast" focuses on how the Hawaiians have changed and how they are rejuvenating and preserving their culture.
